In the third Express Entry draw of the year, Canada issued 730 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the General category.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the draw on January 31 was 541 points, which was 2 points less than the score for the previous all-program draw, which took place on January 23, 2024. In the previous IRCC draw, 1,040 ITAs were issued.
Since the first Express Entry draw in 2024, fewer invitations have been issued, and the cutoff score has been increasing.
British Columbia has implemented a provincial ban on new colleges enrolling international students for a two-year period, following the federal government’s introduction of a temporary two-year cap on the number of Canada study permits issued.
The province wants to end “exploitative practices” in the field, according to BC Post-Secondary Education Minister Selina Robinson.
In addition, the province is imposing minimum language requirements at private institutions in order to make sure that international students are “better prepared” before entering BC.
In order to ensure that criteria are met, inspections of schools would occur more regularly. Additionally, private colleges and universities would have to demonstrate that their new curricula satisfy the demands of the job market and be more open about their tuition costs.
The IRCC invited Express Entry profiles with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 543 or above in a general draw today, and 1,040 invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canadian permanent residency (PR) were given out in the second Express Entry draw of 2024.
